Our Story

You are here: Home » Our Story

American Micro-Dairies Inc. (AMD) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit initiative, founded by Steve Judge from Bob-White Systems (BWS). Bob-White Systems is a commercial enterprise specializing in micro-dairy equipment, design and manufacturing that offers a hand-selected line of cheese making supplies and equipment to facilitate farmstead and homestead cheese making. BWS also operates a 4-cow pipeline research and demonstration barn in Royalton, Vermont.

Steve, an experienced dairy farmer himself, noticed an increasing number of customers contacted BWS looking for advice, help, recommendations and assistance with starting and managing a micro-dairy. Rather than charging customers for such consultation & support, Steve decided to set up AMD as a way to provide this information & education in a freely accessible format nationwide.

Although closely affiliated with BWS, AMD does not limit itself to only recommending BWS products or ideas. Rather, AMD draws information and resources from a range of micro-dairy related businesses, consultants and equipment suppliers throughout the United States. All the while, we are focused on facilitating the local production and sale of safe and delicious farm fresh milk.

American Micro-Dairies is committed to supporting this sustainable alternative in dairy, and recognizes that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to micro-dairy farming. AMD is committed to providing as much information and education as possible, and to facilitating connections between micro-dairy farmers in an effort to promote confident and successful producers. AMD is motivated by a core belief that micro-dairy farming has an important role to play in the development of resilient and sustainable local food systems.

American Micro-Dairies offers free membership to all who sign up. We do this to ensure that everyone has access to the information AMD has to offer. To access all of our membership benefits, simply sign up here. And be sure to take a look at our ‘how to start a micro-dairy info guide.’

We at AMD are working diligently to continually grow our member resources. Projects currently underway include:

  • A national directory of small-scale dairy operations across the United States
  • A database of state-by-state raw and pasteurized milk regulations
  • A state by state directory of dairy technicians & equipment suppliers

AMD is supported by a small, well-equipped network of volunteers. As we do not charge for membership, we rely solely on donations and grants to keep us active. Please donate today if you find our organization valuable; any amount helps and is abundantly appreciated. To read more about our current staff please “click” the links below.
